Astrology and Herbalism

My relationship with herbalism has been a very long and evolving one. My first introduction to Astro herbalism started back in 2018 when I read "Magical Herbalism" by Scott Cunningham. This was just a slight introduction to the astrological energetics of certain plants. I never really put the two topics together until it just naturally unfolded and I began to realize how much astrology is really a part of ALL THINGS. Since then, I've been researching as much as I can and reading as many books as I can about the topic. I try to put everything I've learned into practice by taking consideration of the planets and the Moon phase when crafting my products.

For example, when harvesting herbs, I wait until the Moon is either in the waxing or full Moon phase. The gravitational pull of the Moon is stronger during these phases, and therefore helps draw out the energies and powers of the plant, making the medicine more potent. I also like to consider the planetary ruler of the plant, and harvest on the day of the week that this planet rules. For example, Tuesday is ruled by the planet Mars. Two of my favorite Mars ruled plants are Nettles and Wormwood. This is the perfect day to harvest these plants, especially while the Moon is Full or in the Waxing phase.

It is not completely necessary to take this approach, but it's something I like to put into practice as much as I can. Harvesting plants and making concoctions on specific days of the week, or during specific astrological seasons can help add certain types of energies to your medicines, or extractions.

I also take these principles into consideration when doing my distillations. For example, if I am harvesting and distilling Wormwood, which is ruled by the planet Mars, I would also consider distilling this on a Monday, which is ruled by the Moon. Wormwood is in the genus Artemisia, which bears the name of the Greek goddess of the Moon, Artemis. With having such a strong connection to the Moon, this would also be an energetically aligned day to work with this plant.

I believe these principles help to energetically align and strengthen the potency of our practice and our concoctions.
